CORNWALL GRAVEL SERVICES
We have done numerous sewer and water main reconstruction jobs in eastern Ontario. We did all the site work for Home Depot in Cornwall, from the clearing of the site, concrete supply, services to the building and paving the parking lot. We have done many reconstruction jobs for the City of Cornwall, installing new waterlines and sewers for Brockville, Prescott and the City of Ottawa. We extract the old sewer and watermain pipes and install new pipes to improve the flow of our current underground infrastructure. We presently have five sewer and road crews..
We have constructed many roads throughout the City of Cornwall and surrounding townships. We have reconstructed many sections of Highway 401 from the Quebec border to Kingston.
In 2003/2004, we had a two year contract to demolish an overpass on Highway 401 near Cornwall. Cornwall Gravel played an important role in helping MTO develop a strategy to remove the aging overpasses. This 4.5 million dollar project demanded precise scheduling of sub-contractors, demolition crews, traffic and paving crews.
We have installed a large diameter culvert to act as a bridge for J.F. Markell Homes. We have done some phases of the massive Fly Creek projects stretching across the city of Cornwall for the Raisin Region Conservation Authority. We are continually doing work for Walmart’s store at the Brookdale Mall and the progressing strip Mall at Brookdale Centre.
$17,000,000 MTO Hwy 401 project grading, drainage, granular, concrete base repairs, hot mix paving, guiderail, electrical, and structure rehabilitation that was spread over 15.5 km of Hwy 401. The location of the project was on Hwy 401 between the Lancaster interchange and the Quebec border. Cornwall Gravel crews worked diligently to complete this massive highway job on schedule.
We have turned raw land into beautiful residential subdivisions for many customers in the Cornwall, Ingleside, Hawkesbury and Ottawa areas. Our clients have included Cartwave Realty Ltd., J.F. Markell Homes Ltd., Navron Developments and Fairfield Estates Ltd. to name a few. We are presently constructing new phases of subdivisions in the east end of the City of Cornwall, East Ridge, and in the north end at Hill Island.
We have 2 full asphalt crews which do any size job from driveways to parking lots, roads and highway. We are equipped with the latest asphalt machinery for highway work including three state of the art Shuttle Buggies and one of the largest compaction units produced. We purchased a portable asphalt plant in order to stay competitive in changing markets. We have the ability to move the asphalt plant to any licensed quarry to fulfill our customer’s needs. We have an asphalt plant located in our main quarry in Cornwall to service local needs.
Cornwall Gravel has three SB-2500D Shuttle Buggy® material transfer vehicle (MTV) available for rental. One 2009 model was purchased this spring and is ready to go. The Shuttle Buggy can store and transfer hot-mixed asphalt material from a truck to a paver for continuous paving. A patented anti-segregation auger remixes materials just before they are delivered to the asphalt paver. The 25-ton surge capacity of the Shuttle Buggy® MTV allows trucks to unload material immediately and return to the asphalt plant. Our portable crushing crew moves from quarry to quarry throughout Eastern Ontario. We have two complete setups of cone and jaw crushers to produce custom stone for our customers needs. The Crew’s job is to produce large stockpiles of stone to service the local market. Every year the townships tender their stone supply needs. Which tenders and how many tenders we are awarded, determines how much crushed stone the portable crew will produce.
The MacLeod Quarry, named after Norman MacLeod the original owner of the land, was our first quarry and is still the heart of our operations. We have a stationary and portable crushing plant established at this site on South Branch Road. We have a number of ingredients, which make up our production set up. We have ten 35-ton rock trucks manned and loaded by experienced operators, hauling blasted rock to our main crusher and distributing the finished products to numerous stockpiles around the quarry.
DRILLING & BLASTING
We have drilling and blasting crews that move from our main quarry on South Branch Road in Cornwall and from quarry to quarry outside the Cornwall area. We are equipped with blast monitors in order to control the blast noise and vibration.
We have equipment for any construction need, 7 shovels, 20 loaders, various sized bulldozers, graders, rollers, pavers, 3 Volvo rock trucks, crushers and generators. Our huge fleet of equipment supplies all our crew’s needs, as well as, customer?s requests. Our mechanics keep our equipment well maintained and we have fully equipped service trucks with the latest technology to handle any problems on the job sites.
We have a large fleet of trucks available for hauling anything from earth fill, to asphalt, or granular. We also have water trucks which are available on hot, dusty, summer days. Our trucks work by the hour or the tonne/kilometer. We have large and small floats available to move any size equipment.
We have quarries located in Cornwall, Iroquois, Casselman, Greely, Sarsfield, Chesterville, Kemptville, Avonmore, Applehill and pits in Martintown, Bonville and Gravel Hill. We are working on future sites in Eastern Ontario. Six of our scale sites are computerized with bar coding capabilities. We have experienced loader operators available at each of our quarries to supply customers with all of their aggregate needs.
We are experienced in environmental cleanup procedures. We have cleaned up a number of abandoned gas station sites where fuel tanks required extraction. We are licensed to haul hazardous waste material and have completed many jobs for insurance companies.
We have 11 ready mix trucks and 1 stoneslinger. We cover areas within a 100-kilometer radius, including United States. We supply ready mix concrete year round. We have a fully computerized concrete plant capable of batching any type of concrete. Our stoneslinger is capable of spreading stone around foundations or hard to reach places, eliminating much manual labour.
During the winter months we have many snow removal contracts located around Cornwall and area. A large dedicated labour force starts in the early hours of the morning to ensure that parking lots are cleared for the public.
We have six snowplows and 2 salt trucks that plow and salt surrounding highways in Ottawa and Three United Counties.
